T4 Ranch South African Boer Goats

Frequently Asked Questions About Boer Goats
Here are some commonly asked questions with answers that may help you out. If you have further questions or would like more information, don't hesitate to call or write.

WHY SHOULD I CHOOSE YOUR BOER GOATS?

We strive at T4 Ranch to educate our buyers as to the potential of an animal and try to match the buyer to the goat that he needs and desires. We have for many years tried to breed a goat with a strong immune system that can survive tough conditions as well as breed for supreme quality show stock. Whether a person is looking for show stock, foundation breeding stock or commercial breeding stock, they usually select the same buck or doe because everyone wants the very best they can buy.

WHY SHOULD I BUY FROM A BREEDER NEAR ME?

You should always buy what best suits your breeding program. If that happens to be in your area you have hit a home run simply through convenience.

I HAVE NEVER RAISED BOER GOATS. IS IT HARD? IS IT EXPENSIVE?

Yes, it can be hard but "in the most delightful way". And it can be expensive, depending on the quality and health of the foundation breeding stock and how you manage it. Being successful is mainly a matter of preparedness meeting opportunity.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO START WITH BOER GOATS?

A person must decide through proper research if indeed it is exactly what they want to do. Then they must set aside a budget and be determined to stay within those limits. After looking and asking a lot of questions of breeders one can get a good grasp of the niche they feel may be best suited for them and basically how to go about making that happen. For example, buying and getting into the meat goat business is quite different than getting into the stud Boer Goat business. They are simply worlds apart.

HOW MUCH DO YOU CHARGE FOR BREEDING STOCK?

Our goats are always priced according to quality. The old saying "you get just what you pay for" is especially true in the Boer Goat business. How can buying a cheap stud buck for your herd possibly produce quality expensive kids??? Think about it........Usually your chances of getting a top quality stud buck or doe at a good price are far greater if you really put the time in to research the breeders and their bloodlines.

DO YOU DELIVER? IF NOT, HOW DO YOU SHIP LIVE ANIMALS?

Yes, we can deliver. We usually use a custom hauler. Those rates are subject to change but are usually standard and times vary upon availability of the hauler. The majority of kids purchased are shipped by air by request of our customers. We would be happy to furnish the information necessary to make shipping arrangements.

AFTER I PURCHASE MY FIRST BOER GOAT WILL YOU HELP ME IF I GET IN TROUBLE?

Yes, in fact we recommend that you call as often as needed. However, we don't want to give medical advice. We leave that up to the licensed veterinarians. Sometimes though problems are not serious and you just aren't aware of the little quirks these animals can have. You learn gradually and remember the only reason you might not know is that you just don't have the knowledge yet. We've all had our first time!!

WHAT ABOUT PAPERS ON BOER GOATS?

This is left entirely up to the buyer. We recommend that all Fullblood Boer Goats be registered and there are three associations that can handle this for you. It is merely a tracking system that helps you to sell your offspring and helps you make decisions regarding bloodlines, which to keep and which to sell. We don't feel that papers guarantee the purity of the breed, however, it becomes a must if you intend to show your animals in the many sanctioned shows across the country.
