Even as we strive
to breed the more perfect Boer Goat in its traditional form,
there are those who would like to be somewhat creative in their
breeding programs. Thus, so many of you have taken the next
step and introduced the red and paints, also known as the "colored
Boers," in to your flocks.
It did not
seem to be important either way on these colored Boers until
we decided to keep an excellent paint buck that came from breeding
a Venter buck to a Venter cross doe. We had around the same
time produced a paint do from the Madiba line and decided to
mate these two for an ET program. The doe "Roulette"
flused 39 embryos, of which 38 were fertile. We sonogrammed
25 and eventually got 21 live kids and a surprise as well. The
vet had left 2 fertile embryos in Roulette and she kidded two
handsome bucks.
We have
been truly fortunate to have had so many exquisite percentage
does that have won many, many championships for T4 Ranh and
other Boer goat studs as well. Our latest accomplishment: We
took two yearling percentage does to the 2002 ABGA Nationals
and they placed third and seventh in their class and went on
to win the Best Pair Senior Percentage Does.
We hope
by applying the same cull and select methods with these "colored
Boers" we shall be able to offer to our customers the very
same quality we have been able to do in the past with the traditional
Boer goats.
